Canton, Ohio was founded in 1805, but it did not become a city until 1838. Bezaleel Wells, the first to discover Canton, named the land after Canton, China. Our city saw large expansion at the turn of the 20th century with the construction of the railroad and industrialization. After the downfall of some of the more labor intensive businesses, Canton moved in the direction of retail, education, and healthcare.
Our vibrant arts community is home to many Pulitzer prize winners, architects, and athletes. Our town is the birthplace of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Canton Museum of Art, and the Canton Ballet. All places for families to experience culture and bring a little art to their lives. With new exhibits flooding the museums, February is the time to discover the possibilities of art.
We think getting to know our neighbors is important! Events like Kidfest and First Friday help create a family like atmosphere in a large city like ours. North Canton is in an area rich with culture and art activities. Not only do we have the Football Hall of Fame 10 minutes away but Hall of Fame also gives back to the community it calls home.
